PocketAmp - Guitar Amp Effects App Reviews

Think first

Amp popped and crackled, especially when lots of gain applied. Unable to turn up volume on iTunes when trying to play along. After all the $$ input for the app and the link, well you get what you pay for. Although it is cool to play thru your iPhone is why I gave it any stars at all.

Awesome. 4.7 stars...

I was looking for something to let me mess with my guitar again. PocketAmp looked pretty decent in reviews, so I figured Id try it. Im pretty happy with it. Let me summarize the flaws: 1. No tuner that Ive found. 2. Not sold on the user interface for the preset saving stuff. Whats it get right? 1. Sound. Nice and flexible. Be sure to notice that the choice of cabinet and choice of amplifier are separate. They both do different things, and the sounds are pretty good. 2. Latency. Too short to notice. 3. Effects. Delay, reverb, noise gate, and your choice of chorus/flanger/etc. is pretty decent. Its not a $800 rackmount signal processor, but then, it doesnt claim to be. 4. Nice range of distortion sounds, and the EQ works pretty well. If it had a tuner, itd be an unambiguous five-star app. Without the tuner, its still solid, so I go into another app to use the tuner, then come back to this one to, well, play guitar. The biggest complaint I had in the 1.x series has been fixed (new landscape mode on iPad). So Im all happy now.

Good App

These cats that give it 1 or 2 stars are clueless. I have been playing for sometime now, own a Schecter Diamond Series, KH ESP and a 7 string Schecter and play through a Randal MDH-200 that screams bloody murder. I would have never paid $15 for that POS thing they call amplitude if I saw this earlier. One will never get the sound of a half stack or anything like it out of something this small and for 5 bucks, this app is worth it. It may not be fancy, but it does deliver what its intended to do, which is to serve as a PRACTICE AMP!! Oh yeah, if you need a song to "play with", then the timing in your head is jacked up because come time for the real deal, aint going to be a song playing in the background to help you keep track of where you are.

Far and away the best iOS amp sim

Really just about perfect. Killer sounds, great layout, none of the feedback problems other apps are plagued with. Brilliant.

Great app

This app is excellent. Quick and easy amp settings -- set to the style of music and play. You dont need a degree in physics or stomp pads to get the output you want Sound is great Virtually no feedback or latency. Even works well when porting the iPad through your amp. Developer quick to respond to comments or questions. Definitely recommended. Worth more than the asking price.

String magic

Great app loved the sound just needs a recording feature and

Great idea poor performance

Interface is passable, but the sound quality is really lacking. It is hard to get any significant volume and there is a lot of popping and noise when playing.

Best one out there

Never had any problems with the sound I get out of this amp. I have Garage band and ishred live and this is by far a better (and cheaper) product. Its great to be able to play along with songs that I practice (you have access to your music library) and set up a loop. Difficult sections of a song that I practice can be slowed down and endlessly looped for easy practice. Good job fellas.

Close but...

The amp sounds great... For a few minutes then starts crackling and popping before shutting the amp and music off. The volume of the music and amp go up and down on their own. I have to shut down the app and go back in where it will work fine...for a few minutes again and then repeats the meltdown all over again. Dont people test anything before releasing their products any more!

Excellent!

The IRiffPort cable is awesome! It just works (unlike some of their competitors cables). The pocket amp app sounds good and the interface is easy to use. I love the fact yoiu can speed up or slow down a song to play along with. Nice job guys!

Awesome app!

Ive been playing off & on for 20+yrs now. This app (with iriffport) rocks! Id buy it again. Makes those hard to hear licks much easier to pick, AND allows you to dial in your sound. My only suggestion would be additional stomp box packs. If you want to learn how to play your fav. songs, this will definitely make it easier! Thank you Kevin for a great product.

Good all around effects processor

I downloaded it one weekend with several other apps for guitar. It comes with a well rounded number of effects, but has no upgrade ability and only a few cabinets with it. Still the price gets you everything to get playing guitar with variations from the blues to metal and the sound is really good. Get serious and youll crave more effects, but for new iPad players or those getting started its a great all-in-one application.

Pocket amp

One of the best amp apps because you can import music from your iPod and jam along...I cant do that with I rig .

Power Up

Nice simple and effective interfaces for amp selection and stomp boxes. Easy to use even on the iPhone with my good size fingers. I use it with iRig and it is great for my home set up, just practicing and jamming along through a fender champion amp. Not sure the benefit of iriffport??? Also unclear why apogee jam isnt supported, hence 4 stars. Way more intuitive than GarageBand but it is not trying to cover all gbs whistles and bells recording features. For making a righteous sound quickly, simply, this is the most fun Ive found so far.

Pocket amp

I really love this app I can practice guitar anywhere I go

Best of its kind

I tried all of the other competing apps and this one is the best, heres why - great sounds and effects included, others make you buy them as extras - direct access/jamming over your iTunes songs, some of the others make you import/convert them which is slow and takes up memory - ability to change speed and pitch of the jamming song This app rocks!

Nice Try But Needs Some Fixes

I am a pro guitar player but new to IPad apps. I downloaded a few guitar practice apps and found the following pros and cons for this one. Pros: Guitar tone is better than most competitors right out of the box. True that you are not having to buy a bunch of up-sell add ons to make the guitar sound workable. Cons: There was a lot of noise from the headphone jack that was not present in other apps. The jam track feature was virtually unusable for me. I could not get it to loop a track off an album and play it back consistently. It got confused and kept returning to the beginning of the album. Highly doubt it is user error. I am a Software Developer as well as a pro musician. The loop seemed to work okay when accessing single songs, but album songs screwed it up - meaning I like to search my iTunes in album mode not song mode. So on the right track, but room for improvement. Fix the bugs and you will have something.

Its ok.

The iriffport is phenomenal. Very high quality, and easy to use. Line out and headphone jack are great. Ive had no problems keeping it plugged in, even with the lightning adapter. The sound quality is exceptional. Support is fast and second to none. The app is ok. Probably more three star, but the iriff is 10 stars. The app is extremely easy to use, adjusting settings is a snap. I just cant figure out how to get a decent sound? When I compare the amp and effects of this to others, it falls a bit short. Mainly the rock and metal distortion effects. They sound too fuzzy, to me and not enough clean heavy distortion if that makes sense. Anyway thats my thoughts.

Awesome

This probably one of the best guitar apps Ive ever tried and Ive tried well over 300

Awesome indeed!

This app allows you to get that extra heavy distortion sound that you used to just fantasize about getting when you first start out with just a simple amp and guitar! It makes you want to keep practicing. A must have for me! I would have paid twice as much for it! Now that I KNOW what it does. The reviews made me take a chance on this one. Im sure glad I listened. Now if youll excuse me I need to go plug in!
